What Is Dupixent and How Does It Work?

Dupixent, known generically as dupilumab, is a biologic medication that Sanofi and Regeneron brought to market in 2017. The FDA initially approved it for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis—more commonly called eczema. Since that time, its approved uses have grown to address multiple conditions, such as:

  • Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
  • Eosinophilic esophagitis
  • Prurigo nodularis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Bullous pemphigoid
  • Chronic spontaneous urticaria

The medication works by targeting two immune system pathways—interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-13 (IL-13)—that play key roles in triggering and sustaining inflammation. By blocking these pathways, Dupixent helps reduce symptoms like itching, skin lesions, breathing difficulty, and nasal polyps.

Safety Concerns Associated with Dupixent

The manufacturers marketed Dupixent as a safer alternative to systemic steroids or immunosuppressants for long-term use. However, emerging research has challenged that safety profile. One of the most alarming concerns involves a potential connection to cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL), a rare and aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that primarily affects the skin.

Recent medical studies have drawn attention to this link. A 2024 study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology compared CTCL risk among patients who used Dupixent and those who didn’t. The researchers found that patients with atopic dermatitis who used Dupixent had a 4.1-times higher risk of developing CTCL compared to those who did not use the medication. In many cases, the cancer was diagnosed more than a year after treatment with Dupixent began.

Then, a 2025 analysis published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology examined FDA safety data and found that Dupixent users reported CTCL 30 times more frequently than those using all other medications. The study suggested that dupilumab may alter immune system pathways in ways that could potentially accelerate CTCL development.

Signs and Symptoms of CTCL

CTCL is a rare cancer of the immune system that develops from T-lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. It can cause a wide range of symptoms that may develop gradually or appear suddenly. If you have been taking Dupixent, it is important to recognize these warning signs and seek medical attention promptly if you notice any changes.

Common symptoms of CTCL include:

  • Skin rashes, patches, or raised plaques that may resemble eczema or psoriasis
  • Lumps or tumors on the skin that may be firm or tender to the touch
  • Redness, discoloration, or thickened skin that doesn’t respond to typical treatments
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, or groin
  • Persistent itching, hair loss, or scaling that worsens over time
  • Fever, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss that occurs without other explanation
  • Pain or tenderness in affected areas that interferes with daily activities

Who Is Eligible for a Dupixent Lawsuit?

If you or a loved one developed cancer after using Dupixent, you may have grounds to pursue legal action against the manufacturers. Dupixent lawsuits are in their early stages, and Shapiro Legal Group, PLLC is representing former patients nationwide in their claims.

You may qualify for a Dupixent lawsuit if:

  • You or your loved one used Dupixent for 30 days or more (at least two injections given two weeks apart).
  • You or your loved one was diagnosed with CTCL following Dupixent use.
  • The diagnosis occurred between 2017 and the present.
  • You have not previously signed a contract with an attorney regarding this matter.

Meeting these criteria doesn’t guarantee you have a case, but it does mean you should speak with an attorney as soon as possible to protect your rights. Our attorneys will carefully evaluate your situation to determine your options for legal action.

What Compensation Is Available in a Dupixent Lawsuit?

If you have been diagnosed with cancer after taking Dupixent, you may be entitled to significant compensation for the harm you have suffered. The goal of these lawsuits is to hold the manufacturers accountable and recover damages that reflect the full impact this diagnosis has had on your life.

Potential damages in a Dupixent lawsuit may include:

  • Payment for medical expenses related to your cancer diagnosis and treatment, including hospitalization, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, medications, and ongoing monitoring
  • Lost wages if your illness has prevented you from working, as well as compensation for reduced earning capacity if you can no longer work in the same capacity as before
